EXPERIENCE - LL - DUE Nov. 7

10/31/2018

Lunchtime Lecture, Japanese Aesthetics, 10/31/2018
  • Review the EXPERIENCE directions on the WS 3 document.
  • Review the Lunchtime Lectures page for additional assignment details and resources.
  • The notes you took should be in your SB but your EXPERIENCE should be posted on your blog. Label it as such (all blog posts should always use the specific category - PROCESS, EXPERIENCE, AWARENESS, OR CONNECT - as the first part of the heading).
  • Like Artist Spotlight entries, you should have this blog entry complete by the following week (so, in this case, Nov. 7th)

AWARENESS - AS #3 - DUE Oct. 29th

10/15/2018

THIS ENTRY IS TO BE POSTED ON THE BLOG PAGE OF YOUR WEBSITE.

Using Artist Spotlight posts and KhanAcademy resources as examples, present biographical and contextual information about the artist whose work you are copying. Include also any information you can find about the specific materials and processes that your artist used.

This research should be helpful to you as you try to understand your artist and the work that you are copying. It should also be helpful to others as well. Your posts will be read by your classmates so that they can learn about multiple old master artists, which will help them better understand how/why artists of this time period were working in the way that they did.  Consider this task carefully as you design your post and write your questions.

Required elements (this is the minimum):
  1. Heading: AWARENESS - artist's name and birth/death dates
  2. 3 images: 1) of the artist, 2) of the work that you are copying, and 3) of a different work of art by the same artist.
  3. Credit lines for all images.
  4. A brief "report" (quality v. quantity)(writing & honor rules apply; cite/list your sources).
  5. Supporting information (videos, articles, websites, etc.) that will help explain the "who/what/where/why/how, etc." about your artist. In addition to the information presented in your report, these resources should contain information needed to answer the questions that you will write. Again, quality v. quantity: Be selective with these resources - there will likely be many to chose from, but consider the time that you will be asking your classmate to spend (for example, don't include videos that are an hour long unless you can direct them to a specific, short segment that contains the specific info. that you need them to understand).
  6. Three questions that, when answered, will allow for review of the artist's place in art history, their impact on the art world, and the student's ability to make meaning and find inspiration from their life and work.

LIST OF OLD MASTERS TO BE PRESENTED. If you are sharing an artist, or will be presenting Raphael again, see what you can do to dig a bit deeper into the life/work/times of the artist, beyond the basic stuff.
  • Domenico Ghirlandaio: Elizabeth
  • Leonardo da Vinci: Ria and Natalie
  • Albrecht Dürer: Alex
  • Raphael: Shreya, Rylan, and Helen
  • Parmigianino: Raina
  • Tiepolo: Ada
  • François Boucher: Lucy, Amelia, and Maya
  • Eugene Delacroix: Julianne
  • Mary Cassatt: Genisus

HOW TO WEEBLY! DUE Oct. 15th

10/6/2018

Weebly is an easy, intuitive, and FREE web-hosting service. There ARE paid options but you DO NOT need any of that right now.

My challenge to you is to see how far you can get with setting up your Weebly website ON YOUR OWN by following these steps:
  1. Using CHROME as your browser (Weebly does not like Firefox! I am unsure about Safari), GO HERE to set up your FREE account.
  2. If you are asked about selling things, select "not now"
  3. Scroll through the MANY template offerings - the Portfolio or Personal options are good ones to look at. The template can be changed so don't be too worried making a permanent choice right this second.
  4. Click "Start Editing"
  5. Select your domain name - this is what will be in your URL and can be different than what you title your site. Look at student examples to understand the range of options.
  6. Create 3 pages with tall or short headers (page names and header options can be changed later, once you have a better sense of things):
    1. "ABOUT" or "HOME" (Standard page)(the landing page; who are you/what can viewers expect?)
    2. "BLOG" (Blog page)(an archived collection of posts that illustrate your growth and development as an artist/critical thinker)
    3. "GALLERY" (Standard page) (a curated collection of your finished art)
    4. NOTE:  Additional pages and elements can be added as you continue to build upon this resource, which is personal, cumulative, and easily editable.
  7. Send me your URL (example: https://www.mosleyart.com/) by the homework deadline (and so that I can add it to the Student Webpage directory on mosleyart.com).

LET'S SEE IF YOU CAN GET THIS FAR ON YOUR OWN. Keep going if you can!
