AWARENESS - Artist Spotlight #15 - DUE April 24* (this is a change from 4/19)

4/8/2019

THIS ENTRY IS TO BE POSTED ON THE BLOG PAGE OF YOUR WEBSITE & tagged to the "AWARENESS" category.

Using Artist Spotlight posts and KhanAcademy resources as examples, present biographical and contextual information about a SCULPTOR whose work supports and inspires the sculpture that YOU are currently making. REMEMBER:
  • The point of this research is to support your artistic process and to strengthen the development of your ideas. Use this artist exemplar to better understand and explain your choices of SUBJECT, COMPOSITION, CONTENT, and FORM (style, medium, technique).
  • Additionally, this research should also be helpful to OTHERS. These posts will be used by your classmates to learn about sculptors beyond those presented by the teacher. These investigations should allow both you and you classmates to further understand how art history plays an ongoing role in contemporary art.

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:
  1. Heading. "AWARENESS: Artist Spotlight #15 - Artist's name and birth/death dates"
  2. A picture of the artist.
  3. At least ONE of their most well-known sculptures, including credit line.
  4. At least ONE of an earlier and/or other sculpture, including credit line, so we can get a sense of their depth/breadth/development as an artist.
  5. A statement that explains the direct connection to YOUR sculpture. Why did you choose THIS sculptor to research? What is it about THIS sculptor's work  (subject, composition, content, medium, process, etc.) that will help you with YOUR sculpture?
  6. Important facts/background info. (biographical, stylistic, contextual, etc.); a brief "report" to summarize their life and work - the things that made them famous and important to art history (writing & honor rules apply; cite/list your sources).
  7. Supporting information (videos, articles, websites, etc.) that will help explain the "who/what/where/why/how, etc."  In addition to the information presented in your report, these resources should contain facts needed to answer the questions that you will write. Be selective - there will likely be many resources to choose from, but consider the time that you will be asking your classmate to spend when reviewing them (for example, don't include videos that are an hour long unless you can direct the reader to a specific, short segment that contains the info. that you need them to understand). NOTE: all links must be active.
  8. THREE questions that, when answered, will allow for thorough comprehension and review of the provided resources, the artist's place in art history, their impact on the art world, the reason(s) they work in 3D, AND the reader's ability to make meaning and find inspiration from their life and work.
