Writing an Artist Statement

5/9/2016

The resources posted below should be helpful when working through the process of writing an artist statement.

It's important to understand that artists typically write a statement about their body of work. This is typically done when exhibiting in a solo or group show, so that the audience can understand how their different works support one another in the context of one exhibit.
  • You are being asked to write a statement about your painting - just one painting.
  • Keep that in mind as you review these resources and use them to suit your purpose.
Review your Project Plan often to address changes to the answers that you originally gave to the guiding questions. These answers contain the information that will become your artist statement.
