Art History Alert:  Earn a Grade by Making Connections

Picture
Picture
The goal of the game is to be aware of - and then to share - examples of art history that are a part of your world. A former student inspired this game by sharing (on the Facebook group page) his astute observation that the logo for the Children's Hospital Foundation seems to have been inspired directly by the swaddled baby medallions made by Andrea della Robbia for Brunelleschi's Ospedale degli Innocenti in Florence. The modern logo makes much more sense when you know the historical context from which it came.
In another example, I was driving home and passed a building that I have passed a million times before. The difference is, this time, while waiting at the red light, I noticed that the façade was made of rusticated blocks, much like the lower level facade of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. To play the game (aka "earn my grade"), I would need to post a picture of this building, as well as other supporting images and a statement of the specific reference(s) to art history.
