Aleatoricism + Pareidolia + Drawing

12/31/2016

Students were asked to apply the drawing skills learned in Drawing Bootcamp while pushing beyond them to draw imaginary and distorted subject matter.

Students first composed collage materials, which were produced by processes involving chance and a lower hierarchy of control (aleatoricism). Then they were challenged to find specific imagery within the random patterns, colors, and textures (pareidolia). Then they used rendering skills, as started in Drawing Bootcamp and practiced through various exercises, to develop the illusion of form and to enhance the theme of their work.

By learning to control subject, composition, and content, students learned to create ART by manipulating its three principles with pupose.

By learning to adapt to happenstance and to use serendipity to their favor, students learned to tap into their creative intuition and to develop artistic and problem solving skills and behaviors that will support future work.
