  • DUE TUESDAY - Your choice of ONE "Think About It" question from Chapter 3
  • VARIOUS DUE DATES: ART HISTORY ALERT!!! The topic for this round must specifically address one or more of the major themes that we have looked at. Your post must include an image of something we've covered in class and how it directly relates to the related theme that you've found elsewhere. 
  • Start reading Chapter 4 - Art of the Ancient Aegean

HAPPENINGS:​
  • TUESDAY = Art Club meeting (because it's the 4th Tues. of the month). Special event: NAHS induction ceremony!!! 
  • NOV. 2 = school holiday for you
  • NOV. 3 = Parent/Teacher conferences, 4:00 - 7:00 pm
  • NOV. 4 = Washington D.C. field trip permission forms will be available (Deadline Nov. 20th but space is limited, so... first come/first served!). The trip is on Dec. 4th, from 7:45 am - 6:30 pm.
  • NOV. 6 = MW/VAB First Friday Art Walk - meet in room 153 @ 5:30 for refreshments, then load the shuttle bus for a ride to and from art galleries on Broad and Main streets.
  • NOV. 10 = Lunchtime Lecture (this is an Art Club meeting but an extra credit opportunity for art history students). Required for extra credit: 1) Attendance at the lecture; 2) A typed report (1 page is enough), which incorporates both factual information about the lecture and summative/reflective thoughts that make connections between what was heard/learned and the field of art history; 3) Submission of this report no later than the Friday after the lecture.

​HOMEWORK:
  • Read Chapter 3 - Ancient Egypt 
  • DUE FRIDAY - TWO REFINED research project ideas as per the posted Semester 1 Project parameters.  Your typed proposal should clarify the specific question and/or thesis statement that your research seeks to address. Included also must be the required visuals (one from the text book AND one from a museum or actual site that you can visit) and credit lines (captions for images/works of art).  Images do not need to be in color. 
  • DUE OCT. 27 - Your choice of ONE "Think About It" question from Chapter 3

  • Spreading the Word (video) - exploring the theme of art as propaganda through an ancient Persian "billboard" and a king's desire to communicate his political vision
  • Finish ancient Near East

THURSDAY:
  • Quiz (open notes) - Chapter 2....just FYI, previous content becomes fair game from this point onward; tests are cumulative will be cumulative, as will the exam.
  • As soon as you finish the quiz, read "Introduction to the Semester 1 Project" and review/refine/complete/change your initial ideas as per the project guidelines.

  • DUE FRIDAY - Your choice of ONE "Think About It" question from Chapter 2
  • DUE FRIDAY - THREE possible research project ideas. The goal here will be to explore a specific topic that falls within the chapters to be covered this semester AND includes a work(s) of art that you can observe personally. This will require some research into the collections of the VMFA, other local museums, and those in Washington, D.C. in order to determine the potential to see your selected work(s) of art in person.
  • ONGOING...keep a running list of "things I am interested in and would like to know more about." This will help when generating or refining research project ideas. 
  • For NEXT week - start reading Chapter 3 - Art of Ancient Egypt
