REMINDER: The National Art Honor Society is looking for a few new members! Ideally, you have been in Art Club and already know what the NAHS does... but, if not, and if you are planning to stay enrolled in art through graduation, you may still apply. MONDAY: Raku chawan may be delivered today (or Wed.)

This annual exhibit highlights the work of EACH art student while also illustrating the SCOPE of the OVERALL art program. Select 2D work you've done THIS year in order to best represent the content of the ART 2 curriculum
(your ceramics will be displayed elsewhere).  


DUE Feb. 28: Put ready-to-hang work in the Art 2 portfolio, write the required info. on the sign up list,

This annual exhibit is meant to highlight the work of EACH art student while ALSO illustrating the SCOPE of the OVERALL art program @ Maggie Walker. Select something that you've done THIS year (in class or in your sketchbook) that represents the Art 2 curriculum. Your choice must be made, your work must be matted/ready to hang and your label info. must be submitted by February 22nd (NEXT Friday).

MONDAY: 
  • Artist Spotlight #10 (For Friday's SB CHECK have: heading, thumbnail, credit line, and at least partial notes)
  • Discuss YAMM  (Youth Art and Music Month) event and exhibit - and procedures to prepare and submit work.

Welcome to Q3/Semester 2; it's time to plan for next year: 
1) Art 3 (then Art 4 and for some of you, Art 5)
2) Topics in Digital Media/Graphic Design (then Digital Art)
3) Survey of World Art (VCU - 8 credits)
4) Photography (VCU - 3 credits)
3) Film Studies (VCU - 3 credits)
4) Digital Video or Photojournalism Seminars (for seniors)


NOTE: Since it is technically now Q3 and we are STILL finishing up work from Q2,  it is VERY important that you work EFFICIENTLY (and multi-task) because we need to start the next unit of study ASAP!  Color, Colored pencil, Photorealism, Paint, Printmaking, and Mixed Media need to be covered in order to be able to complete the final project of the year.

PLEASE be vigilant in your PREPARATION by checking the weekly agenda in order to be PROACTIVE and ORGANIZED in your work habits. 
MONDAY: 
  • Paste in SB #5 (read for homework - get started ASAP)

  • Review glazing terms, directions, options; CONTINUE glazing/load kiln (to be fired by Wednesday)

MONDAY: Kiln is candling all day (to be bisque-fired on Tuesday)
  • SB #4 DUE/share
  • Quiz debrief (once all makeups are complete)
  • START self-assessment rubric for BISQUE (DUE @ end of class, Wed.)
  • Review glazing terms, directions, and options - START glazing Round 1 chawan

​WEDNESDAY: Round 2 bisque-fire is complete (hopefully)
  • Review glazing terms, directions, and options - FINISH glazing Round 1 chawan
  • Unload kiln of Round 2 bisque/re-load kiln with Round 1 glazed work (check bottoms)
  • FINISH self-assessment rubric for BISQUE (DUE @ end of class TODAY)
  • ALL Q2 WORK MUST BE COMPLETE/TURNED IN BY TODAY

FRIDAY: First art class of Q3 
  • CLEAN/ORGANIZE CLAY STUDIO AND ALL CLAY TOOLS/EQUIPMENT
  • Continue Maggie Walker mural project

​PROJECT DEADLINES: 
  • DUE WEDNESDAY: 1) BISQUE self-assessment; AND 2) ​Round 1 chawan are painted and ready to be glaze-fired (please note that multiple firings are often necessary to achieve the desired effect... so you may be doing more glazing later)​​​

HOMEWORK DEADLINES:​ 
  • DUE MONDAY = SB #4; use the rubric you were given to supplement the review of the directions & expectations and to assure that you have completed all the work with your best efforts & as per the goals of the assignment.
