(20) Week of January 21st

1/21/2019

1) You should enter the Thank a Teacher AND Doodle for Google contests!!!
2) You should apply for VCU's FUTURE STUDIO!!!
3) You should gather your notes for Friday's quiz!!!
4) You should consider getting SB #4 done early and turning it in after the quiz on Friday - so you can get it off your hands and so I can get a head-start on grading!!!
5) You should, if you need to do so, plan to use time outside of class to finish building/decorating your natsume, mizusashi, etc.!!!

MONDAY: NO SCHOOL/MLK Holiday

WEDNESDAY: Art Club/NAHS meeting + picture @ noon
  • Daily drawing
  • Introduction to glazing for different clay bodies (earthenware/stoneware) and firing processes (electric kiln/raku).
    • David will be here to introduce the glazing process for raku. Remember, the only tea bowls that are to be raku-fired are those you made on the wheel.... why?
    • Finish glazing these TODAY
  • Clean up/refine Round 2 greenware, then load kiln (this is a 3 minute task)

FRIDAY: All "Round 2" greenware must be loaded into the kiln by the end of the day.
  • QUIZ #2 - open notes
  • Glaze Round 1 tea bowls, etc. for glaze-firing (in kiln, not raku)
  • Clean up/refine Round 2 greenware, then load kiln (this is a 3 minute task)
  • Continue Maggie Walker mural project

PROJECT DEADLINES:
  • DUE FRIDAY = tea bowls for raku must be glazed while David is here; if you are not here, your bisque ware will be painted with clear crackle
  • DUE FRIDAY = Absolute latest day for Round 2 work to be loaded into the kiln.
  • DUE Jan. 30 (this is a change) = Round 1 tea bowls/other forms are glazed and ready to be glaze-fired in the kiln; please note that multiple firings are often necessary to achieve the desired effect... so you may be doing more glazing later...
