  • CHECK THE SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF EVENTS AND DETAILS
WHEW, you made it to the end of this agenda AND the end of Q1. Well done!

The first quarter of art is more about learning how to be a successful art student than anything else: preparedness, organization, deliberate practice, curiosity, open-mindedness, making connections, thinking deeply, putting forth your best effort, being confident, answering open-ended questions, solving visual problems, etc., etc. etc. The website is meant to help with those efforts and more - and so using it as a tool for success is part of your responsibility as a student. Moving forward, there will be fewer weekly agenda challenges - and eventually none. There will simply be an expectation that you are fully prepared at the start of each week.

SO....
  • If you have taken at least 2 agenda challenges, this can be #3 and it will earn you Extra Credit for Q1 - THANK YOU!
  • If you have never taken an agenda challenge, I challenge you to do so... just because - PLEASE!

Here it is: Post A FACT, OBSERVATION, or QUESTION related to Artist Spotlight #6
  • No, it hasn't been assigned yet.
  • No, you don't have to read/view the resources - but you can
  • Look at the image, read the heading, credit line, and any other written information (including previous student comments) and think...
    • What facts are obvious, in writing, etc.?
    • What observations can you make re: connections you notice between this work of art and others we have studied?
    • What questions do you have?
  • In  order to earn credit for your work:
    • Don't repeat any comments that have already been posted!
    • Post your comment BEFORE the first class of the week!

Thanks again for getting to the end of yet another weekly agenda! Taking an "agenda challenge" has never been mandatory but I am happy when you take the initiative to do so. Not only does it confirm that you have checked the agenda but it shows that you are willing to go above and beyond basic expectations, and so I would like to reward those of you who have done so.....

As stated early-on in the year, extra credit can be earned by taking on these challenges...."can" being the operative word. There will be 2 more challenges this quarter, including this one.  Those who have taken a minimum of 3 challenges will earn extra credit. There are a couple of you who are on track to have taken more or even ALL provided challenges.... keep going - I'll think of something extra-extra for you :)

This week's challenge: Access, read, and "sign" the honor pledge found in Quia.
Doing this will prepare you for accessing your quiz this week (do you remember your Quia user name/password?) and will save you a few minutes on quiz day!

OK.... I really need to know that, by the 6th week of school and after numerous reminders, ALL OF YOU are checking the website to prepare for the week ahead and beyond. Please submit a comment before your first class of the week to let me know that you have done so.

IF you want to exceed that basic expectation, you can do this instead: Using the 2 handouts that you were given recently, find a vocabulary word that you:
  1. Didn't know at all but have now learned something about - OR
  2. Already knew but now have a more comprehensive understanding of, especially as it applies to art - OR
  3. Would like to know more about...

Submit your answer as a comment written in a complete sentence that clearly reveals the selected option (1, 2 or 3). Answers should be unique to YOU and YOUR experience. Answers that don't address the specific question will not be approved!

  • CHECK THE SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF EVENTS AND DETAILS
HEY! Did you get all the way to bottom of this agenda? You've read it, updated your calendar as needed, and are prepared for the week ahead and beyond? COOL.

Here's a challenge to get you fully prepped for this week:
  1. Watch the video, considering carefully the point of the exercise (what IS the point?!)
  2. Try it for yourself; select an object that stands vertically, in-the-round, with lot of detail (not a phone, ruler, pencil, etc.)(could be a self-portrait!)
  3. Draw this object  from direct, careful observation using only one line. DO NOT CHEAT. You'll defeat the whole point of the exercise = waste of time. Keep your pen/pencil on the paper at all times (do not judge your work for it's perfection or lack thereof - it WILL be a "good drawing" IF you followed the directions)
  4. Bring your drawing to class on Monday/Tuesday (labeled with name/date/class code)
