(36) Week of May 28th

NOTE: We are now on a very strict schedule. Plan your time  and use lunch/other times as needed to finish your projects on time: 1) Sculptures must be finished by the end of the day on Tuesday (Wed. is the ABSOLUTE latest) (because they need time to dry fully before firing!); 2) There is ONE more painting studio day this week (short class); paintings are officially due on June 4/5 (w/self-assessment rubric).

MONDAY: Memorial Day Holiday/no school

TUESDAY: SOL schedule - extended 6th pd.
  • 6th pd. - the extended time will allow you to finish your sculpture by the end of class TODAY 
  • 2nd pd. - finish clay

WEDNESDAY: SOL schedule - extended 7th pd.
  • 3rd pd. - LAST studio day for painting - work on self-assessment rubric

THURSDAY: SENIOR SHOWCASE

FRIDAY: SOL schedule - extended 8th pd
  • 2nd and 6th pds. - LAST studio day for painting

HOMEWORK is designed to: 1) allow for exploration, practice, preparation, and application of class content, 2) encourage independent work, time management, and efficiency of work flow (don't procrastinate!), 3) fit within the weekly homework time allotted for this class. Keep these things in mind as you work. Use of a timer is one way to stay on task and to monitor your work time. Please note that your individual needs and work process may result in spending more or less than the suggested average time. Ask for help/use extended lunch as needed; communicate extension requests at least 3-days before a deadline.​​​​​
  • NONE but you should use your time to start gathering and organizing your notes, in preparation for the quiz next week and for the exam the week after

​EXAM SCHEDULE: The final exam is cumulative and will take the full 2 hours; you will not be released from the room until the exam time has officially ended. Extra time will be used to clean the art studio.

  • Wednesday, June 13 = Periods 3 & 5

(35) Week of May 21st

You will start the CERAMIC SCULPTURE project this week. This is a FAST project, to be completed in 1 long and 2 short class periods (3rd pd. will finish THIS week). Because of the need for drying-time and a very strict kiln-firing schedule, it's critical that you meet this deadline.
Please be prepared (SEE HOMEWORK)!!! 

You will have ONE MORE painting studio day on May 30th (3rd pd.) or
June 1st (2nd/6th pds.). Paintings need to be 100% complete for critique and self-assessment in class on June 4/5.
​Plan your time accordingly; use lunch/other times as needed.

    • The full # of daily drawings should be complete, including all warm-ups; don't forget to label any extras that you do on your own
      • If you were absent on 5/18/18, do these TWO warm-ups: Stack 3 small boxes (shoe boxes, etc.). Twist them around so that they are NOT stacked straight on top of one another; challenge yourself to use your linear perspective skills! For the second drawing, you can do another arrangement of boxes OR stack some books in a similar manner.  Each drawing should take you 10 minutes (set a timer and draw for the entire time). 
    • Don't forget to address the following essential questions in your field trip entry:​
      • What is the content of Tillman's work?
      • What connections can you make between her work and what you have been doing throughout the year?
      • What aspect of Tillman's subject, composition, content, work & thought processes can you adapt as your own artistic habits?

Studio days 3 & 4 (of 4 guaranteed) (but 6th pd. goes on the field trip Thurs.)

MONDAY/TUESDAY: 
  • NO Warm-up
  • Class activities:
    • BRIEF process critique - review of criteria
      • You MUST have an ARBITRARY YET FORMAL color scheme selected and written on both the back of your painting and your rubric (6th pd. needs rubric)
    • Paint demo. as needed - intro. to glazes
    • PAINT (studio day 3 of 4, guaranteed). You should be close to 1/2 done by today - if not, find time at lunch to make progress.
      • Double check your LOCAL colors for accuracy (Hue? Value? Saturation?)
      • Keep your color wheel close by; use it to help you figure out color mixing options AND add to it along the way

WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY: 
  • NO Warm-up
  • Class activities:
    • 6TH PERIOD, YOU ARE MAKING UP THE FIELD TRIP TODAY. You have already had an extra studio day, so are technically not behind the other classes. That being said, the majority of you have a lot of progress to make and should come in @ lunch to paint.
    • PAINT (studio day 4 of 4, guaranteed). You should be close to finished today - if not, find time at lunch to make progress.
      • DOUBLE CHECK all colors - do they match??
      • Keep your Color Wheel close by; use it to help you figure out color mixing options and add to it along the way

FRIDAY: 
  • Warm-up: 2 x 10 min. each
  • Class activities:​
    • Discuss AS #16
    • Review of painting progress (check value matching!) & prep. for clay sculpture next week

There are 4 guaranteed studio days in which to finish your painting - 2 of them this week.
Please have ALL drawing done so that painting can start promptly on Monday/Tuesday.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: 
  • Warm-up: 10 minutes
  • Class activities:
    • Review project rubric
    • Paint demo.
    • PAINT (studio day 1 of 4, maybe 5?)
      • Start by matching LOCAL colors 
      • THINK ABOUT your ARBITRARY color scheme
      • Keep your Color Wheel close by; use it to help you figure out color mixing options and add to it along the way

WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY: 
  • NO warm-up/just get to work on painting (because there will have only been 2 in-class warm-ups prior to the SB Check on Friday, you may delete 2 warm-up drawings from the list of requirements)
  • Class activities:​
    • PAINT (studio day 2 of 4, maybe 5?)
      • Continue painting LOCAL colors but begin with the ARBITRARY colors when it makes sense. REMEMBER:
        • LOCAL colors must match the reference photo - look carefully and use knowledge of hue, value, and saturation to match adjustments
        • ARBITRARY colors will be different from the reference photo but must utilize a formal color scheme AND must match in value (squint and/or use your phone)
        • Keep your Color Wheel close by; use it to help you figure out color mixing options and add to it along the way

FRIDAY: 
  • NO warm-up 
  • Class activities:​
    • SB check (daily drawings PLUS Artist Spotlight #15)
    • Review AS #15 and intro. to AS #16
