OK.... I really need to know that, by the 6th week of school and after numerous reminders, ALL OF YOU are checking the website to prepare for the week ahead and beyond. Please submit a comment before your first class of the week to let me know that you have done so.

IF you want to exceed that basic expectation, you can do this instead: Using the 2 handouts that you were given recently, find a vocabulary word that you:
  1. Didn't know at all but have now learned something about - OR
  2. Already knew but now have a more comprehensive understanding of, especially as it applies to art - OR
  3. Would like to know more about...

Submit your answer as a comment written in a complete sentence that clearly reveals the selected option (1, 2 or 3). Answers should be unique to YOU and YOUR experience. Answers that don't address the specific question will not be approved!

2. I knew what the word "contrast" meant but now I know an aspect in relation to art. When we did figure drawing and we talked about sizing of the thighs, or foreshortening, that was a new example of contrast for me.

I would like to know more about sighting. I have previously seen it used on some YouTube videos and never knew what it was called until now. I would like learn how to do it and possibly incorporate it into my drawing process.

I learned composite perspective during Artist Spotlight #2. I had seen in before, especially in ancient Egyptian art, and I always thought it was a bit strange. Now, I know why the artist did that, and the message they intended to convey.

I already knew about light sources and what they can cause; however, I never knew some of the terms, such as reflected lights and crest shadows.

(3) I would like to learn more about texture. I never know how to add texture to my artwork, and when I try to add texture, it makes the art look over complicated and busy.

Unity is a word that I know from human relation and people being 'united' or in in a 'union', but in art it seems like much more. I would like to know more about how in artwork shapes and be in unity, but also different and creating interesting aspects to a piece.

1. and 2. I didn't know anything about viewfinders and I knew a little bit about negative space, but through the stool drawing activity I learned how to use both of these things/ideas to make a drawing more interesting, change its composition, or make the drawing of an object more focused.

1. I did not know about "brain mode" or "L/R-mode."
3. I would like to do more with a view finder because I usually don't work with them when I'm making art on my own.

I've heard many myths about left and right-handedness, but I've actually never heard that the hemisphereic locations of brain functions could differ for both left and right-handed people. Does that mean that some people could have their verbal functions located in the right hemisphere of their brain? And I was wondering why the descriptions for the right and left hemisphere are all pertaining to right-handed individuals. Is it because not many studies have been conducted on left-handed people?

2. I knew what the word contrast meant, but did not realize that it could be used when referring to the different sizing of objects in a piece of artwork. Before, I thought that it only had to do with value differences or color.
3. I would like to know more about contrast and what other aspects of art it can apply to.
