Are there any special events coming up?
Is there a change in the schedule?
What opportunities can I take advantage of?
In what other ways can I prepare to do my best?

Check the MLWGS Calendar!

(35) Week of May 21st

5/21/2018

You will start the CERAMIC SCULPTURE project this week. This is a FAST project, to be completed in 1 long and 2 short class periods (3rd pd. will finish THIS week). Because of the need for drying-time and a very strict kiln-firing schedule, it's critical that you meet this deadline.
Please be prepared (SEE HOMEWORK)!!!

You will have ONE MORE painting studio day on May 30th (3rd pd.) or
June 1st (2nd/6th pds.). Paintings need to be 100% complete for critique and self-assessment in class on June 4/5.
Plan your time accordingly; use lunch/other times as needed.

MONDAY: SOL schedule - extended 1st pd.
  • 3rd pd. - start clay

TUESDAY: SOL schedule - extended 2nd pd
  • 2nd pd. - the extended time will allow you to nearly finish your sculpture by the end of class!
  • 6th pd. - start clay

WEDNESDAY: SOL schedule - extended 3rd pd.
  • 3rd pd. - the extended time will allow you to nearly finish your sculpture by the end of class! (You will finish completely on Friday)

THURSDAY: SOL schedule - extended 4th pd.
  • SB #6 DUE (no time to share today - just put it in the box)
    • 2nd pd. - continue clay (You will finish completely next class)
    • 6th pd. - continue clay (You will finish completely next class)

FRIDAY: SOL schedule - extended 5th pd
  • SB #6 DUE (no time to share today - just put it in the box)
    • 3rd pd. - finish clay

HOMEWORK is designed to: 1) allow for exploration, practice, preparation, and application of class content, 2) encourage independent work, time management, and efficiency of work flow (don't procrastinate!), 3) fit within the weekly homework time allotted for this class. Keep these things in mind as you work. Use of a timer is one way to stay on task and to monitor your work time. Please note that your individual needs and work process may result in spending more or less than the suggested average time. Ask for help/use extended lunch as needed; communicate extension requests at least 3-days before a deadline.
  • DUE MONDAY/TUESDAY: Study the current Project page AND revisit/revise/redo your preliminary sketches (AS #15) so that you can be fully prepared for clay sculpture THIS WEEK.
  • THURSDAY/FRIDAY = SB #6.
    • The full # of daily drawings should be complete, including all warm-ups; don't forget to label any extras that you do on your own
      • If you were absent on 5/18/18, do these TWO warm-ups: Stack 3 small boxes (shoe boxes, etc.). Twist them around so that they are NOT stacked straight on top of one another; challenge yourself to use your linear perspective skills! For the second drawing, you can do another arrangement of boxes OR stack some books in a similar manner.  Each drawing should take you 10 minutes (set a timer and draw for the entire time).
    • Don't forget to address the following essential questions in your field trip entry:
      • What is the content of Tillman's work?
      • What connections can you make between her work and what you have been doing throughout the year?
      • What aspect of Tillman's subject, composition, content, work & thought processes can you adapt as your own artistic habits?
  • DUE EVERY WEEK:
    • Check the website; update your agenda accordingly and complete any required preparatory make-up work
    • Check your grades on Powerschool - follow up as needed
